Ibex sues Disney and Snap in Brazil as streaming patent disputes escalate

Context:

  • The Walt Disney Company has faced increasing patent enforcement activity relating to streaming and video technologies in multiple jurisdictions. InterDigital previously obtained preliminary injunctions (PIs) against Disney in Brazil over streaming patents (September 11, 2025 ip fray article), while both InterDigital and Huawei have pursued Unified Patent Court (UPC) litigation involving video-related technologies (March 10, 2026 ip fray article). Huawei is an Avanci Video licensor.
  • Snap Inc. was sued by Dolby Laboratories in the United States and Brazil over AV1- and HEVC-related patents connected to Access Advance’s Video Distribution Pool (VDP) ecosystem (March 24, 2026 ip fray article).
