Micron files declaratory judgment action on same day as patent grant in expansion of chipmakers’ fight with Netlist

Context: Netlist has asserted its patents against producers of JEDEC standard-compliant memory modules, including Micron and Samsung, on multiple occasions. In 2024 it was awarded $303.15 million in damages in a case against Samsung at the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas (July 24, 2024 Netlist press release) as well as $445 million by the same court in a case against Micron (May 24, 2024 ip fray article). Micron and Samsung have hit back with inter partes reviews (IPRs) and post grant reviews (PGRs) at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB).
