Context:
- Like many other major patentees, InterDigital last year began enforcing its cellular standard-essential patents (SEPs) against China’s Transsion, the African market leader and a major player in other price-sensitive markets such as Latin America (October 31, 2025 ip fray article). Transsion was sued in the Rio de Janeiro State Court, the UPC, and the Delhi High Court.
- In the Indian prong of the dispute, InterDigital asserted seven SEPs, arguing that it previously made numerous attempts to negotiate and execute a license agreement for its SEPs with Transsion since their first correspondence in June 2019. But “the defendants have not shown true willingness to enter into a license agreement on FRAND terms”, the plaintiff claimed.
