Context: AutoConnect Holdings LLC has asserted patents against several automakers in United States district court. In October 2024 it sued Toyota for patent infringement in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas. Toyota moved for summary judgment, arguing it was already licensed to the patents-in-suit by means of an agreement it had signed two decades ago with patent monetization pioneer Erich Spangenberg – currently CEO of SIM IP, which is involved in various infringement actions (July 6, 2026 ip fray article).
