BMW counters Broadcom patent suit in Munich, brings U.S. declaratory judgment action

Context: In 2019, Avago and its subsidiary Broadcom filed lawsuits against BMW (as well as Daimler/Mercedes-Benz) in Germany over the alleged infringement of patents related to chips used for wireless communications in connected vehicles (specifically covering technology used for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connections). In October 2020, the companies entered into a patent licensing agreement, which covered Broadcom’s global patent portfolio. That agreement expired in 2025.
