7. Around the court
7.1 Steady growth pattern continues for UPC in August
The UPC continued to expand its docket through August 2026. It received 22 new infringement actions filed in August. Provisional-measures applications picked up somewhat, with all five August filings going to German divisions, i.e., three to Dusseldorf, two to Mannheim.
7.2 First PMAC cross-border patent mediation ends in settlement
The first cross-border mediation case at the Patent Mediation and Arbitration Centre (PMAC) ended in settlement shortly after the parties met with a jointly selected mediator. The case highlights the potential for PMAC ADR to resolve patent disputes efficiently, with both the UPC and national courts able to encourage parties to consider mediation. A subsequent request for a free, online ADR information session further highlights the PMAC’s role as a tool for saving time and costs while improving dispute-resolution strategies.
