Context: Japan’s NEC Corporation sued eufy, owned by Chinese consumer electronics maker Anker Innovations, in September 2024 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas over camera-surveillance-related patents. Anker recently lost a bid to have some of the asserted claims thrown out as ineligible subject matter. Meanwhile, AnkerDirect and Power Mobile Life fired back with a declaratory-judgment suit in the Eastern District of Virginia, asking a court to rule that eufy’s cameras do not infringe seven NEC patents. That case was transferred to the Eastern District of Texas after the court found it overlapped with NEC’s pending infringement suit there, and the Anker entities voluntarily dropped it without prejudice about a month later, without stating a reason.
