Cerence sues Sony over PlayStation voice recognition tech, adding to litigation against Amazon, Apple

Context: U.S.-based AI software developer Cerence sued Sony and TCL in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas in September 2025, alleging that the defendants’ smart TVs infringed several of its patents. Both cases were stayed pending the outcome of a related U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) complaint naming Sony and TCL as respondents (August 4, 2025 Cerence press release).
