Context: Novo Nordisk, the Danish maker of Ozempic, Wegovy, and Rybelsus, was granted European Patent EP3448416 (“Semaglutide in cardiovascular conditions”) in August 2022 (October 10, 2026, EPO Register, patent register). Eight opponents filed oppositions in May 2023, including Stada, Teva, Sandoz, Adalvo, and Generics (UK). The European Patent Office (EPO) Opposition Division maintained the patent in its amended form in an interlocutory decision despatched on January 21, 2025 (October 10, 2026, EPO Register, patent register), but appeals followed. We have not reported on this patent before, but Novo Nordisk’s semaglutide enforcement in Europe has been a recurring topic, including when it obtained 29 preliminary injunctions in Germany (October 31, 2025 ip fray article).
