BREAKING: Samsung has withdrawn ETSI complaint over ZTE’s SEP licensing practices

This may be our shortest news piece to date, but we did want to share the information that Samsung is apparently complying with the Munich I Regional Court’s anti-ETSI-complaint injunction (AECI) (October 15, 2025 ip fray article). Samsung has withdrawn its complaint with the European Telecommunication Standards Institute (ETSI) over ZTE’s standard-essential patent (SEP) licensing practices. We do not know yet what implications this has for ETSI’s internal proceedings. ETSI Director-General Jan Ellsberger planned to make an important procedural decision on or after Tuesday (October 21, 2025) (October 16, 2025 ip fray article).

Separately, the England & Wales Court of Appeal (EWCA) has scheduled the hearing of ZTE’s appeal of the interim-license declaration for October 28, 2025 (estimated duration: 4.5 hours).
