Laurie Fitzgerald is President of Avanci Vehicle – a patent platform that offers licenses to the essential cellular technologies used by connected vehicles. The single global license covers the vast majority of cellular standard essential patents, with Avanci Vehicle collecting one royalty per vehicle paid once for the life of the vehicle, irrespective of the number of connectivity components in the vehicle.
Mrs. Fitzgerald has been at Avanci for nearly eight years now and is based at the company’s head office in Dublin, Ireland. Avanci was first established in 2016. Previously, Mrs. Fitzgerald worked as a principal at McKool Smith, an associate at Susman Godfrey, and a Law Clerk at the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas (Galveston Division).
Our latest podcast episode, released today, features an interview with Mrs. Fitzgerald about her career in IP prior to joining Avanci, the work she does on a daily basis at the company – although, as she points out, there is no typical day when you lead a program at a patent pool – her message to aspiring young IP professionals, and women in leadership, as well as how Avanci Vehicle is progressing in China and where the pool administrator hopes to go in 2026.
She notes during the interview that another Vehicle program will be launched soon, and there will be a lot going on in Avanci Video, so listeners should “watch that space” in 2026.
Mrs. Fitzgerald also reflects on Avanci Vehicle’s successful year – in the past 12 months, it has welcomed 12 new licensors onboard, as well as many licensees, including Toyota (October 10, 2025 ip fray article) and Dolby (November 18, 2025 ip fray article).
