Access Advance reports 100% HEVC patent agreement renewal rate: Google among licensees that opted to extend

Access Advance yesterday announced its fourth quarter licensing progress, which included the welcoming of 29 new licensees (8% increase) to its HEVC program, and a 100% renewal rate for all its HEVC licensees who had the option to terminate at the end of 2025 (over 120 companies; all in all, the pool has 400+ licensees). Among those licensees were Google, Huawei, LG, OPPO, Panasonic, Samsung, Sony, DJI, Honewyell, and Vantiva.

The company’s VVC patent pool also grew 40% with eight new licensees, while its VDP pool added both a new licensor and its first U.S.-based licensee (Roku). And, of course, Q4 also saw the resolution of multiple licensor-initiated litigations through licensing deals, with Transsion (December 1, 2025 ip fray article), Hisense (December 20, 2025 ip fray article), and Roku (January 7, 2026 ip fray article) joining Advance’s HEVC patent pool.

In a statement, Access Advance’s CEO Peter Moller noted that the company has had an “exceptional quarter by any measure”.

The pool administrator saw litigations convert to licenses and every compliant licensee with an option to terminate their agreement, renewed it, he said, adding:

“These results don’t happen by accident. When existing licensees unanimously choose to stay, and new ones join at this pace, it tells you the programs are working.”

Mr. Moller also stated:

“We enter 2026 with significant momentum. Our acquisition of the administrator of Via LA’s HEVC/VVC patent pool (December 15, 2025 ip fray article), now renamed VCL Advance, further strengthens our position as the leader in video codec licensing. Combined with Q4’s results, Access Advance now offers the most comprehensive licensing coverage in the industry. We look forward to building on this foundation in the year ahead.”
