Via Licensing Alliance President Heath Hoglund today announced that he is moving on from his role at the company “for a new opportunity” at the end of this year (December 15, 2025 LinkedIn post by Heath Hoglund).
He reflected on his time at Dolby, where he started as the company’s first chief patent counsel 18 years ago, before transitioning to lead Via in 2021, noting in the post:
“I took this job with the understanding that Dolby would support the acquisition of MPEG LA. I am grateful to Andy Sherman for giving me the role, to Larry Horn for his willingness to consider a change in direction, and to the former owners of MPEG LA who chose to support the combined company, namely Jako Eleveld, Keiko Higuchi, and Pat Patnode.”
Mr. Hoglund also emphasized that he believed the combination of Via and MPEG LA would have greater success – and that this happened. The combined companies’ first win was when TCL joined its ATSC 3.0 program without litigation, in the midst of “fierce competition. He also pointed to Via’s more recent strides forward: its Qi wireless charging program and the newly launched semiconductor memory pool.
All of this, he added, is the result of one thing: talented people. Mr. Hoglund’s greatest accomplishment, from his time at both Dolby and Via, was “letting these talented people do an amazing job”, he concluded.
