Context: The first Unified Patent Court (UPC) cases in which a challenge to long-arm jurisdiction was brought after the European Court of Justice (ECJ) decision in BSH Hausgeräte v. Electrolux is IMC Creations v. Mul-T-Lock, a case about car door (such as trunk) locks (Section 1 of our March 22, 2025 UPC Roundup). The plaintiff sought remedies not only with respect to UPC territory but also Switzerland, Spain, and the UK. However, along the way IMC narrowed the case, leaving only Switzerland in the case as a potential long-arm jurisdiction.
