This is a quick follow-up to what we wrote this morning about the cancelation of a Munich Nokia v. Geely trial:
- Longhorn IP has issued a press release anouncing that “its German subsidiary, Ox Mobile Technologies GmbH, is dismissing its patent infringement action filed in the District Court of Düsseldorf against Geely Automobile Holdings Limited, Lynk & Co International AB, and Lynk & Co Sales Germany GmbH.”
- Avanci founder & CEO Kasim Alfalahi just announced on LinkedIn that Avanci has “sign[ed] 4G and 5G agreements with another one of China’s largest automotive brands”.
The near-simultaneous withdrawals of cases against the same implementer by companies that are licensors of the same patent pool makes a pool license by far the most likely option. Those cases were not related in any other way. Truck maker PACCAR has apparently taken an Avanci license as well, and the pattern was very similar (April 22, 2026 ip fray article).
Taken together with what Avanci’s CEO said on LinkedIn, there simply is no other plausible explanation left. This means Geely’s case against Sun Patent Trust in the Ningbo Intermediate People’s Court is also history.
Avanci’s Chinese licensing program is indeed making major headway. The question is just when Great Wall Motor (GWM) will sign up as well (May 20, 2026 ip fray article).
