Context: Competition between Chinese robot cleaner makers Ecovacs and Roborock has extended into patent litigation in their home market, the U.S., and Europe. Ecovacs previously obtained a UPC order to inspect Roborock products at Berlin’s IFA trade show (September 15, 2025 ip fray article). Roborock subsequently secured two reported preliminary injunctions (PIs) against Ecovacs in Germany (21 O 12347/25 and 7 O 12785/25) and successfully challenged the UPC inspection order (December 21, 2025 ip fray UPC Roundup), with the revocation upheld on appeal in March 2026. In China, the dispute also involves Ecovacs’ Tineco subsidiary, with infringement claims in both directions and Roborock securing the invalidation of several Ecovacs and Tineco patents.
