The Patent Mediation and Arbitration Centre (PMAC) has expanded its alternative dispute resolution (ADR) services by launching Expert Determination proceedings. The new mechanism allows parties to obtain an independent expert assessment of specific legal, factual, or technical issues arising in patent disputes, offering a flexible means of resolving complex matters outside traditional litigation. PMAC noted that the procedure is particularly suited to technically demanding cases, including standard-essential patent (SEP)/FRAND disputes, where expert opinions may assist in evaluating key technical and commercial issues. Requests for Expert Determination can now be filed through the Centre’s Case Management System (CCMS), adding to PMAC’s existing ADR Information Sessions and Mediation services.
